Airstar produces a number of upgrade parts to improve your Vario helicopters. All parts are made of aviation grade aluminum and available powder coated or anodized in a variety of colors.

We highly recommend that you replace the standard plastic Vario blade grips with the CNC aluminum versions. The plastic grips are known to have failed in flight on heavier scale helicopters.

Special Notes:

1.      Place the Rotor Head Inserts into the Rotor Head. Make sure the set screw slot is on the bottom and the sides are vertical.

2.      Place the Feathering Shaft into the Rotor Head.

3.      Place the O ring on the feathering spindle near the middle of the shaft one each side

4.      Place the Shim Washers next to the O rings.

5.      Place the roller bearing on the shaft followed by the Bearing Spacer with the marked end facing the Rotor Head,

6.      Place the next Bearing on the shaft.. Place the Bearing Relief Washer on the Shaft with the recessed face facing the Rotor Head.

7.      The thrust bearing races have different sized center holes..

8.      The race with the larger hole faces away from the rotor head and is placed on the stepped portion of the shaft.

9.      The ball cage has an open side and a closed side. Grease is placed in the open side. The open side is placed on the stepped portion of the shaft faces the rotor head.

10.  Place the Thrust Bearing Race with the small hole with the race facing the Rotor Head.

11.  Apply Lock Tight to the Screw Threads on the Shaft and on the End Bolt.

12.  Screw the End Washer onto the shaft with the shoulder facing out.

13.  Tighten.

14.  Repeat for the other side. Note: The process is symmetrical.

15.  Tighten both end bolts securely.

Check

1.      Each item is in the correct sequence and orientation.

2.      Thrust bearing is seated properly

3.      Nylon rotor heads are seated fully

4.      Tighten the end bolts securely.

You have now completed the rotor head sub assembly. You are ready to add the blade grips and mixing arms.

Adding Blade Grips and Mixing Arms:

1.      Push a Blade Grip onto each side of the Bearing Assembly

2.      Align screw holes on blade grips. With the holes on the Bearing Spacer. NOTE: with the new

3.      version bearing spacer (4 hole version) make sure the marked screw hole is facing the to the mixing arm slot.

4.      Add Mixing Arms

5.      Align a single hole opposite the mixing arm and insert two M3 x 8 screws with 3 x 6x0.5 washers to maintain correct orientation.

6.      Screw on the mixing arm with a set of M3x10 screws and 3 x 6 x0.5 washers (this aligns blade grips with the spacer). Be sure the mixing arms are pointing counterclockwise.

7.      Once the blade grips are aligned remove the screws and secure them with Lock Tight.
