I spent 4
years of my life in the
coast guard and have had
some very interesting experiences.
I served
on a coast guard cutter with
one aircraft on board,
an HH65A
coast guard
dauphin
helicopter which we used for
search
and rescue. I was a rescue
swimmer,
plus I worked
the enforcement
off the coastal waters boarding
vessels . I
was always very proud of the
HH65
dauphin helicopter with its
twin turbos; it’s
one incredible
maneuverable
helicopter, always being
improved and always ready.
Since 1990
I
have been taking
up
flying remote control
helicopter
as a
hobby.
About
7 years ago I was thinking
of wanting to build a static
model of this helicopter.
I came across a company
called Airstar
International
and talked to a gentleman named
Josef
Joebstl.
I was amazed of
his expertise in
flying helicopters, and his
history of being an
outstanding helicopter movie
cameraman.
I saw
some of his scales he has
built for some of his clients,
and I was just amazed of the
work being done. So I ask
him if he could build be a
dauphin helicopter and his
response was no problem no doubt we can
build it
for you. I asked for a
lot of
detail and when the
helicopter
was
finished I was in awe,
so
impressed
with
the magnitude of skills and
detail that was done on this
helicopter.
Along
with 6 thousand rivets all
over the helicopter’s
body,
it was so
impressive!
I
have many more scale
helicopters
underway with
Airstar
International.

but

Got my JetCopter Sx up and running
today.
The machine is superb, smooth and
POWERFULLLLLL!!!!
The kit arrived about 2 weeks ago,
taken some time to get it
re-assembled, as it was delivered
with boom,
head and blades separate after being
test flown by ASI in the USA.
Changed to 2.4 GHz RX & TX, original
was on 72 MHz - not allowed here in
SA,
and had to get the mechanical set up
of the rudder right and then set the
heading hold parameters for the gyro
again.
A
steep learning curve with the JetCat
manual and some thought and learning
devising all the fuelling and
charging peripherals.....
Turbine runs flawlessly, with avg.
egt at 560'c and engine rpm range
from idle 55000 to max rpm 94000
rpm, main rotor at about 1280 (slow
i know but this bird turns fat 810mm
blades that whop-whop like the real
thing).
At 5 degrees pitch she lurches into the sky
and hovers in ground effect just under 1/2
stick. Touch the pitch and and the
sky gets sucked up.......
Gyro is rock solid at 50% in avcs
heading hold, and cyclic is crisp
and fast with all-round digitals and
the 2.4GHz xtremelink modules.

liters of jet A1 gave me 15+ minutes
in hovering with a bit to spare in
the hopper tank.
This is the business boss - sound,
smell, power ................ still
ending test hovers with a dry mouth,
light head and racing pulse.....
