Josef,

My brother introduced us just a few days ago and I bought my first helicopter from you on Saturday.  I have never received better service from any one in my life.  Not only did you get a Mongoose ready for me in a very short time, after I totaled one, you stayed up until one in the morning so that you could finish another one for me.

Your product has surpassed my expectations.  I have been in the RC hobby for over 15 years, doing everything from boats to tanks to helicopters and your product is far superior than anything I have run into.

I am and will remain an Airstar International customer for life.

REVIEW

EVALUATION OF:

AIRSTAR INTERNATIONAL MONGOOSE GASOLINE HELICOPTER

I have been flying the Mongoose for some time. This helicopter is superior in its class.

Unlike other helis the Mongoose is not a kit. It comes fully assembled and trimmed out.

The G230 or G260 gasoline engine is a tremendous improvement in reliability over conventional nitro engines. Its airframe, all CNC machined metal parts makes the Mongoose stand out from all plastic constructed  helicopters.

Because of its design to carry loads, like cameras, video equipment and other attachments it becomes very versatile for the innovated user. For instance the Mongoose is ideal for your scale ship, because it is easy to fly, big and very smooth and stable.

Some mild aerobatics are possible, but the Mongoose is not intended for 3-D flying.

To sum things up:

THE MONGOOSE IS AN EXCELLENT  FLYING MACHINE

Dear Josef,

I wanted to take a second to thank you for the excellent products and services afforded  me during my purchase of my new Mongoose in December of 2006.  I have enjoyed every second of flying my new helicopter and I have complete confidence with my purchase of my Airstar Mongoose: the “Rolls Royce” of helicopters.

Also, I am very pleased with my new tall landing gear too!  Because of the less than perfect landing areas, my new taller gear has saved me several times adverting tail strikes.  Powder coated to match my copter; light and strong aircraft quality aluminum; it is truly a work of art.

I am looking forward to purchasing more helicopters and accessories from Airstar International.

I know I can always depend on excellence in both service and product.

Respectfully,

Michael Santino

We are in the business of providing aerial imaging for  emergency response incidents and training exercises. When lives are at stake only the very best will do. To do this our equipment must be reliable, durable and stable.  That's why we use the Airstar Mongoose as our aerial platforms. Nothing  else comes close.

As an older beginner learning to fly RC helicopters I found it extremely challenging. A friend of mine suggested I try an Airstar Trainer. I was nervous about trying out such a large bird but I soon found out it was a lot easier to fly than the smaller models . It was a lot more stable than anything else I'd tried. Plus, the gas engine was a lot less trouble than fiddling around with fuel, starter motors and cleaning up the messy oil.  I'd recommend the Airstar Trainer to any beginner who wants a real RC helicopter.

When I bring my Airstar out to the field the other pilots become stricken with jealousy.  And when she takes to the air the field becomes silent as everyone watches the smooth flying action.

I'm proud to own the Mercedes Benz of the sky!

Got it going  and everything was doing fine.  Needed one click of left trim.  So stable I had to back off some expo to feel connected.  Ran a tank through.  Then mounted generator.  I tested the output on a ground run-up and comes on line with voltage just a tad above clutch engagement.  It showed good voltage as I tested it.  Then removed everything but the generator to make sure the belt and pulleys hold up. Will run 5-6 tanks through and then incorporate the gen into the power system...but that's just plug and play.  I'm pretty methodical about integrating something like this...so it's step by step.  I'll report back soon.  Here are some pics.

4 Servo CCPM 10X programming steps for Airstar Mongoose Helicopter

using 4 Futaba S9550 servos. (adapted from instructions by Danny Snyder)

Step #1. In code 65 (Swash Mix) select the 1 servo swash plate mix.

Note: Steps 2 thru 4 are needed to synchronize the servo throw and to prevent over travel. Initial setup values are given below. During final setup and adjustments the pitch curves (code 68) and dual rates (code 13) will be used to achieve the desired pitch, aileron and elevator travel (do not use travel adjust).

Step #2. Code 12 travel adjust- Increase the aileron, elevator and pitch travel adjustments to 150% in each direction.

Step #3. Code 13 dual rate- adjust the dual rate values for aileron and elevator to 50% in all dual rate positions (0, 1,2).

Step #4. Code 68 pitch curve- Reduce the high pitch setting to 75% and the low pitch setting to 25% in all flight modes (0, 1,2, H).

Step #5. Code 51 mix 1- Mix pitch to aileron at 100% in each direction

Step #6. Code 52 mix 2- Mix aileron to pitch at 100% in each direction an turn on the trim. Note: "negative 100 setting"

Step #7. Code 53 mix 3- Mix pitch to elevator at 100% in each direction.

Note: "negative 100 setting"

Step #8. Code 54 mix 4- Mix elevator to aux 2 at 100% in each direction and turn on the trim.

Step #9. Code 55 mix 5- Mix Pitch to Aux 2 at 100% in each direction.

Plug each servo in as follows

Forward servo- elevator

Rearward servo- Aux. 2

Right servo – Aileron

Left servo - Aux. 1

Code 11 Reverse switches look like this>>>

                             Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Do your helicopters come in kit form for me to build?

A:   Our “kits” are not presently offered as a kit for the consumer to purchase. We currently build all of the machines that are purchased at our facility in California to ensure that every machine meets our strict quality control standards.

Q:   What are the building fees that are associated with getting a kit?

A:   The labor fees are based on each individual request and which model is being built. The fees range anywhere from $200 for a basic build and $375 for a full build that is test flown with all components installed and tested.

Q:   Are the AirStar replacement parts compatible with Vario’s helicopters?

A:   Our AirStar replacement parts are 100% guaranteed to provide a more affordable and higher quality upgrade to the Vario parts for the Vario Benzin Trainer and Vario Acrobatic.

Q:   Do you have any mechanics that will for into a scale helicopter?

A:   Yes, our AirStar Evolution mechanics are a perfect fit into any Vario helicopter fuselage that calls for the Vario Benzin mechanics. Our mechanics will also fit some other kits with minor wood work.

Q:   Are your scale mechanics only belt-driven?

A:   No, we offer both a belt driven and torque tube driven mechanics set-up for scale applications. There is also no additional charge for you to choose which one you would like. We also allow the customer to choose what gear ratio they would like, also at no additional charge.

Q:   How much weight can the AirStar gas helicopters lift?

A:   Our gas helicopters can safely lift 15 lbs.

Q:   How long can the AirStar Camera Helicopters stay in the air?

A:   Our helicopters can remain in the air for around 25-30 minutes on one standard tank of fuel, but we can extend that flight time for up to 2 hours.

Q:   Is your AirStar Mongoose camera mount able to be easily removed from the helicopter is I want to fly the Mongoose as a trainer or for 3-D?

A:   The AirStar Mongoose custom camera mount system is fully self contained and can be removed and replaced with the standard landing gear (that does come included with each Mongoose camera helicopter at no additional charge) with only 4 screws in a matter of minutes.

Q:   Why should I go with AirStar International’s Evolution or Mongoose over the Vario Benzin Trainer, Vario Acrobatic or Bergen Intrepid Gasser?

A:   The AirStar International Evolution and Mongoose provide you with features and a design that is far superior to our competitors. We provide our customers with their choice of color for their custom helicopter and the other companies provide you with what they want you to have. We also provide you a helicopter with the lowest parts count on the market, eliminating many parts that the competitors cannot eliminate, such as: servo bell cranks, extra servo linkages and a wood servo tray (Vario). We also provide the customer with a standard all metal rotor head on 12mm main rotor shaft set-up, which is an expensive upgrade from some competition.

Q:   Why are there no upgrades for the AirStar helicopters? I find upgrades for Vario and Bergen, but not AirStar.

A:   AirStar does not really have any upgrades, other than colors, because we decided to provide the customer with the best parts from the very beginning and not make the customer spend extra money for “upgrades.”

Q:   Why should I choose the Airstar camera helicopter over others? Are there any significant differences between your design and those of Bergen or Vario?

A:   Our camera mount system is unlike any other system on the market and is completely revolutionary. We have been using this design in the motion picture industry since the 1990’s and this is the first time we are releasing this to the public. It is completely self-leveling through gentle turns, providing the end user with a constantly level picture, which is ideal for still shot photography and full motion videography and it is offered in a 2- or 3-axis camera mount system. The design integrates it’s own dampening system that is only found with our camera mount.
